Moment hero police officer Lorne Castle sacked for ‘aggressively’ tackling knife-wielding teenager carries out ‘citizen’s arrest’ on shoplifter fleeing Nike store

Our thanks to Aguirre Wrath of Dog for this (Mail, £). It happened on the same day it was confirmed that Mr Castle would be appealing the decision taken by Dorset Police to sack him for gross misconduct.

‘Unfairly sacked’ police officer Lorne Castle to fight dismissal

Another ridiculous dismissal of a white policeman (Telegraph, £). An extract:

Body camera footage of the arrest of the knifeman shows Mr Castle restraining the teenager. A double-edged, eight-inch knife was found in the teenager’s possession, and can be seen falling out of his pocket.

The suspect was not injured during the arrest and was later detained for assault, receiving an out-of-court disposal for possession of the weapon.”

The BBC piece on the matter – with no photograph of the policeman – makes no mention that the knife was double-edged and eight inches long, stating this:

“Dorset Police said a knife was found on the boy afterwards, but beforehand there had been no suggestion he was armed or that a knife had been used.”

Hero police officer Tim Perrin loses job after speeding on way to work

Appalling (Telegraph, £). Tim Perrin, 43, had an unblemished 20-year record with the police, and now works as a maintenance man in Torquay. The article records how the act of “gross misconduct” was speeding at 48mph in a 30mph area whilst driving to Plymouth police station. He decided to appeal against the ticket on the basis he believed had been fulfilling a valid policing purpose. Before setting off on his journey, he was asked to hurry because “things were getting out of control”.

You will not be surprised to learn that Mr Perrin is white. He reports that “experienced police officers are leaving in droves”, to be replaced by young inexperienced officers – a disproportionate number of them women and/or BME and/or neurodiverse, we can safely assume.

The very short BBC piece on the matter has no photograph (so readers cannot know Perrin’s racial identity), nor does it have any details on the offence, nor the mitigating circumstances, nor comments from Mr Perrin.

NHS plans to DNA test all babies to assess disease risk – time to introduce mandatory paternity testing at birth.

Our thanks to Tony for this. A cheek swab from inside the father’s cheek and all is in place for a paternity test. Mandatory paternity testing should have been introduced decades ago. Our last general election manifesto has a section on paternity fraud (pp.48-50), a crime for which no woman has ever been prosecuted by the Crown.
