Peter Sullivan, 68, jailed for 1986 murder of a woman, acquitted after 38 years

Our thanks to Chloe for this. the longest miscarriage of justice of a living prisoner in British history. She suggested we post this extract:

“During the course of the investigation Mr Sullivan gave conflicting accounts of his whereabouts and offered “confessions”, the court heard. However, his defence said he had learning difficulties and was “highly suggestible”. He had also been interviewed without a solicitor or an appropriate adult.

At his original trial, the prosecution also relied on evidence matching bite marks on Miss Sindall’s body to Mr Sullivan’s dental impressions. But the court heard forensic scientists now have expressed serious doubt as to the quality of bite mark evidence.”

Mr Sullivan’s compensation for this extreme miscarriage of justice will be derisory.

  1. Just to remind people that the “Chair” of the CCRC was forced to step down as it was revealed she regularly held meetings from her Villa in Montenegro while the still in post CEO gets into her office in Birmingham “one or twice a month”. Leading to statements like this “Former justice secretary Lord Charlie Falconer also hit out after the case, claiming the CCRC is “unled and generally regarded as useless”.” That the CCRC is “useless” should concern anyone interested in justice for men. Firstly because we know the Criminal Justice System is mainly applied to males and secondly we know from the scandal about CPS and Police misleading Courts in sexual offences trials, to increase “convictions”, that 25% of convictions in the previous decade were “unsound”. A considerable proportion no doubt in need of review by the CCRC.
