We’ve just received an email from Gab with the following content, which takes up the remainder of this piece:

Dear Gab Community,

Last week we outlined the UK government’s direct assault on Gab and free speech through the tyrannical Online Safety Act. We detailed their demands for censorship and exorbitant fines, which we unequivocally refuse to comply with. Now, the situation has escalated dramatically, confirming our deepest concerns about the lengths these forces will go to silence dissent.

The UK government has openly admitted in recent interviews that their attack extends beyond legal threats against Gab directly. They have publicly stated their intention to actively target Gab’s essential infrastructure providers – the very services that keep our platform online – in a malicious attempt to pressure them into deplatforming us. Let’s call this what it is: economic terrorism waged by a foreign nation-state against an American company.

This is a calculated, extra-jurisdictional attack aimed not just at censoring speech they dislike, but at destroying a US business and silencing American voices protected by the First Amendment, simply because we refuse to bow to their authoritarian demands.

This confirms that the fight we described is not merely about differing legal interpretations; it is a coordinated campaign to cripple platforms that champion free expression. They know Gab stands as a bastion of open discourse, and they are deploying scorched-earth tactics to make an example of us. If they succeed in pressuring infrastructure companies to drop Gab, they establish a terrifying precedent to do the same to any online service, American or otherwise, that doesn’t toe their ideological line. Our resolve remains unshaken. We reiterate:

We will NOT comply with UK censorship demands.

We will NOT pay a single cent in fines.

We will fiercely defend our rights as a US company under the First Amendment.

We will continue to provide a platform for free speech for ALL people, including our users in the UK.

This escalation makes the fight more challenging, but it also clarifies the stakes. They are targeting the foundational pillars that allow Gab to function. This requires us to redouble our efforts in building resilient, censorship-resistant infrastructure and mounting an even stronger legal and political defense.

We are continuing to engage with the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, the Department of Justice, and other relevant US authorities to highlight this unacceptable foreign interference and economic aggression against a US entity. We repeat our call for decisive action from the US government, including President Trump’s proposed tariffs, to counter this blatant attack. Now, more than ever, we need your support. This fight against state-sponsored economic warfare requires significant resources.

It shows how mad things are if those who are to protect us don’t ensure standards are; “based solely on the operational demands of the occupation and the readiness needed to confront any adversary.” How anyone can seriously suggest this is “unfair” defeats me (as we risk defeat if we don’t have soldiers able to “confront any adversary”). 

In this country the legal requirement to have “gender neutral” standards has resulted in them being steadily reduced because women don’t reach them! I suppose at least the unequal standards in the US meant the men met the standards that reflected the operational demands.

We might have expected the odious hatchet-faced Vera Bloody-Baird to be a member. The only person on the list I’ve met personally is Kate Green, who was a Labour MP and Shadow Minister for Women & Equalities when we debated in 2016 at the University of Buckingham – here (video, 15:00). “New rules on sentencing criminals from ethnic minorities have been abandoned following a weeks-long standoff between senior judges and the government.

Shabana Mahmood, the justice secretary, believed the proposals from top judges would have created a “two-tier” justice system. [J4MB: It is already, of course, a two-tier system with regards to gender.]

The new guidelines, which had been in development for months, told judges to seek extra information before deciding how to punish offenders from certain minority groups. [J4MB: And one majority group, females.]”

“An oh so boring story. Appearing in many outlets this is just so typical. Men it seems recognise that conditions for cyclists have improved. While women have not changed their reluctance. Out comes the “gap”. But the truth is probably that no matter what is done women will remain reluctant and not shift their views, because its a set of feelings rather than an actual analysis of conditions. As with so many things chasing these feelings the authorities will never narrow the gap, even if they came up with women only cycle lanes! One of the endless series of chasing “gaps” when the truth is women are generally more risk averse.”
