Birmingham: Union launches equal pay claims over ‘discriminatory’ council bonus scheme

Our thanks to Warren for this on the BBC website. He writes:

“To the best of my knowledge, Birmingham City Council ran out of money as it was forced to settle ‘equality’ payments…through not applying merit bonuses ‘fairly’ across the board.

This sort of thing was shaping up in Scotland a few years back. Female council employees were stirring it up that they were ‘denied’ bonuses associated with male ‘craft’ jobs. “This blatant discrimination has to end,” said Union leader Helen Meldrum. (she looks nice…)

What happened to common sense? If the ladies want a bonus associated with being a lift engineer, why not serve an apprenticeship and become one?

And now that Birmingham have run out of money, the ‘solution’ seems to be to take between 6 and 8 grand out of the pockets of the bin MEN. Can’t see many women champing at the bit to make themselves available for the bonuses (if any) associated with that particular job.

This spurious ‘equality’ mullarky is well on its way to bankrupting the country.”

Kathleen Stock: “We need to talk about suicide (euphemisms conceal a painful truth).”

A piece just published by Unherd. I posted the following comments:

“This piece (by a lesbian feminist) illustrates perfectly whu Unherd needs to at least partly balance its many feminist contributors with some anti-feminist ones.

Only a feminist could write about suicide without noting that (a) the male suicide rate is much higher than the female suicide rate in almost every country in the world, 3.5x larger in the UK, and (b) suicide is the #1 cause of death of males under 45 in the UK. If the sexes were reversed, feminists such as Stock would be campaigning on the issue.”

Chris Stapleton

Three years ago I had the pleasure and privilege of staying with Paul Elam and his beautiful partner at their home in Roanoke, Virginia, during the first XY Crew Jamboree. We wrecked our lungs with many Cohiba Red Dot cigars (video, 3:02) and he introduced me to Chris Stapleton, a country / bluegrass star I hadn’t previously been aware of.

Stapleton’s most well-known song is probably Tennessee Whiskey (video, 4:53), I think you’ll also enjoy You Were Always On My Mind (video, 3:48) with Willie Nelson.

Maureen Rickards, 50, murdered her husband, 65, sentenced to life

Interesting. Extracts take up the remainder of this blog post:

A woman who killed her husband and hid his body in their garden has been jailed for life.

Maureen Rickards, 50, stabbed to death Jeremy Rickards, whom she was married to for 27 years…

Rickards was given a life sentence at Canterbury Crown Court on Wednesday and will serve a minimum of 22 years in jail…

Det Insp Colin McKeen from Kent Police said: “She has never expressed any remorse for what she did and has repeatedly sought to frustrate the investigation and push blame onto others, including the victim himself.”

CPS prosecutor James Fisher said Mr Rickards had been the victim of an “abusive relationship”, with “a pattern of historic abuse”.

“He was a regular drinker in a local pub and they noted he would regularly appear with marks on his face,” he said.

Philip Blunden, area lead on domestic abuse for the CPS, said it was a “misconception” that male victims were rare.

“One in three victims are male, but it is relatively rare to find female perpetrators, less than 10% of our prosecutions involve female perpetrators,” he said.

“Domestic abuse is generally under reported, but there is a particular under-reporting of male victims of domestic abuse.”
