Under Mary Curnock-Cook UCAS published its data on the sex of students applying for university. She used this to fuel an annual debate on the “gender gap” in education. She retired and her replacement “re-designed” UCAS reporting of equality data. In such a way that the sex data (one of the Equality strands public bodies are required to collect data on) is hidden by a complex measure of “disadvantage”. Of course this has meant that the large gap in boys attainment and access to University is now only rarely noted by our media, basically should a journalist bother to dig a bit deeper into the UCAS data. This is a very good example of the feminist tactic of “no-platforming” ie ensuring there is no information or debate that distracts in any way from their narrative. One of the most effective being that the recording of male victims of a range of crimes is in the Violence Against Women and Girls Strategy and make male victims female for the purposes of the data! And any public discussion.
Why mention this. Well because however soggily feminist a Minister for Men and their tiny office, they are inevitably going to want to get data on men and boys and will have a vested interest in “developing” their portfolio of “issues” to build up their profile. And the “click bait” media are likely to pick up on at least some of this because it will be “surprising!”.
