BBC licence fee

Our thanks to Tony for BBC licence fee ‘unenforceable’, says culture secretary (just published) and BBC announces extra support to help people pay for TV Licence (2023). The latter piece concerns the fact that 75% of people prosecuted for not paying the licence fee were women. The BBC’s Gender Disparity Review found that “Societal factors, outside the BBC’s control, remain the significant factors behind the disparity in prosecutions as found in the previous BBC review in 2017.” Of course it couldn’t conclude that women should be held accountable for breaking the law.

  1. Meanwhile another “amazing” female CEO jumps ship when the going gets tough Channel 4 boss Alex Mahon to quit amid advertising crisis What never ceases to amaze me is how it seems rarely questioned that the UK has two “state” broadcasters. The BBC and Channel 4. Personally I’d like to see the tax funded BBC gone and Channel 4 continue, the latter has at least got to think about making content folk want to see in order to attract much of its income. I wonder if their current losses might make them consider their left leaning “woke” content ? Whereas the BBC still gets the funding no matter how small the audience.
