Which parent kills more of their children – fathers or mothers? William Collins has the answer (he usually does).

An American supporter today sent me this:

“Mike, I receive this obscure US magazine called Sun Magazine. With the prior founder and editor (for 50 years), it thankfully steered clear of woke politics but the new editors are younger and aren’t doing that. I have already threatened to cancel my subscription a couple times.

Anyway, the last issue claimed in passing that fathers kill their children more often than mothers. This is directly contrary to my understanding of the truth. When I tried to search for information, there don’t seem to be many or any recent studies.

What do you have as the best data, preferably in the US but the UK is better than nothing? I want to write to them about this. Anti-male stuff crops up once every few months in their pages. I always write them about it. They have never published one of my letters signed with my real name but the one time I signed as “Stefanie Svoboda” they published the letter (and Warren Farrell put this story about Stefanie/Steven in one of his books after I told him about it) so I was planning to sign again as Stefanie.”

My reply:

“Hi [name redacted). Child homicide is covered on pp.265-8 of William Collins’s The Empathy Gap (the ebook is a steal with 1,000+ clickable links). It includes this relating to the US:

“The National Child Abuse and Neglect Data System (NCANDS) https://acf.gov/cb/research-data-technology/reporting-systems/ncands 2017 report indicates that 80.1% of child fatalities due to abuse or neglect were the responsibility of one or more parent. Only 15.2% were attributed to non-parents. The mother acting alone was responsible in 30.5% of cases, the father acting alone in 15.5% of cases, and the mother and father both responsible in 22.3% of cases. The mother together with a non-parent were responsible for the child death in a further 10.8% of cases. All told, the mother was implicated in 38.8% of cases. This is a clear indication of greater perpetration by mothers than fathers based on a large USA dataset.”

Long story short, am American child is twice as likely to be killed by its mother rather than by its father. And of course we shouldn’t forget the 73+ million unborn children killed every year (WHO estimate) at the behest of women.

Collins provides extracts of data (British Medical Journal, Stockl et al, 2017 https://www.researchgate.net/publication/318653218_Child_homicide_perpetrators_worldwide_a_systematic_review) from up to 44 countries, including this:

“Over the 12 countries for which there was relevant data, mothers committed 71.1% of parental homicides of children under one year old.”
