I have written a number of times about media outlets which purport to be edgy and offering alternative perspectives to the mainstream media – Triggernomentry and Spiked come readily to mind – but which in relation to gender politics in general and feminism in particular are as feminist-compliant as the mainstream media.
Another such outlet is Unherd, co-owned by Sir Paul Marshall, the rich (estimated net worth £630 million) recent buyer (for £100 million) of The Spectator, which remains (under the new editorship of Michael Gove, a former Tory MP) as feminist-compliant as it was over the years when it was edited by Fraser Nelson e.g. Julie Bindel continues to be a contributor. The output of Unherd includes articles by many feminists and not even one anti-feminist.
A donor suggested I write a response to an article by the British feminist Kathleen Stock, published by Unherd two days ago and titled, How to Free the Universities: Woke Waste is Ruining Academia. I did so, in the full expectation my comments would be ‘pulled’ shortly after, so immediately upon publication I took a screensave and returned to the comments stream a minute or two later. My comments are on the first page, proof of its retraction on the second page:
