  1. To be fair Trump in a New York liberal who is now “right wing” only because the USA has travelled far into socialism in his long life. Geekily researching “breach of promise” I was interested to find this was a particular feature of “common law” jurisdictions (basically legal systems following English Law) even Scotland having a much more limited view. In the anglosphere the damages were compensations for the lost expectations of a comfortable life (whereas in Scotland it was just any wedding expenses incurred). Amazingly the last newsworthy case was as recent as 1969. “In England and Wales until 1970 a woman whose fiancé broke off their engagement could sue him for breach of promise, whilst a woman was permitted to change her mind without penalty. The last prominent case was in 1969, when Eva Haraldsted sued George Best, a prominent footballer, for breach of promise. England and Wales undertook legal reforms in 1970 that generally made property disputes related to engagements to be handled like property disputes between married couples. On 1 January 1971 the tort was abolished in England and Wales by section 1 of the Law Reform (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1970.” Interesting that this exemplified both the greater responsibilities placed on men and the fundamentally mercenary motivations for women marrying. And perhaps the particularly gynocentric nature of “anglosphere” societies, possibly not so surprising the USA has so far led the world in feminism. Perhaps some younger MAGA members will be more interested in a radical look at family policy. I doubt Trump will.
