Give me strength (Times, £). Is this suggestion being made to hide the fact that boys do better than girls in Maths GCSEs?

Of course! They just accept that boys and girls are different and excel in different areas. If I had children particularly sons I would work three jobs in necessary to put them through private, parochial schools!! Sickening!

“Girl Power”. A crowing article Girl power! Female GCSE students continue long-held lead over boys (msn.com) Swap the sexes and it would no doubt be extreme misogyny if a journalist launched into such a screed about how boys lead in mathematics and sciences and of course the blame for the gap in general is firmly laid on the boys themselves. Surely if they have difficulties shouldn’t the teaching profession be looking at addressing these? As we know from national and international research girls are encouraged and praised far more than boys in schools (even in countries such as Iran and Pakistan !) and such positive reinforcement is bound to give a boost to Girl’s performance.

Interesting about the Maths story. In the crowing “Girl Power ” story we find the obligatory feminist male “Professor Barnaby Lenon, dean of the faculty of education at the University of Buckingham, said: ‘Boys do significantly worse than girls in most subjects.
‘This is because boys are less hardworking, less motivated by wanting to please their teachers, and much less mature than girls of the same age.’
Of course if this were the explanation then one should find the effect in all subjects, yet even after the 40 years of trying to get Girls into “STEM,” the subjects which boys do better (Maths, Physics, Economics, Statistics ) tend to disprove the lazy immature theory. Of course it also suggests that despite the decades of boosting girls performance in numbers subjects there may be something of a natural aptitude for these, overcoming and general “immaturity” and direct favouring of Girls over boys. Of course any notion of a natural aptitude is heresy to the “blob’s” feminists, well if applied to boys.
