  1. Of course what this all means is that there are very significant differences between the sexes from the womb and these become very much greater at puberty. These controversies in sport repeatedly illustrate this. As the author points out these become more stark in martial sports because of the dangers of injury, whereas in others the claim is that women simply will lose, rather than be hurt. As the author points out women’s sport mainly exists because otherwise women would never get near winning in sports. This does make a complete nonsense of the arguments made for the reduction in physical requirements in the military, police, fire services etc. and of course claims that the absence of women in physically demanding trades and jobs is due to social barriers rather than the very real physical requirements.

Having some interest in disability sport, the bewildering proliferation of categories illustrates the difficulties of being “fair”. So I have sympathy for those such as Caster Semenya and the two boxers who have never been anything other than “girls” and find themselves at the centre of feminist civil war.

Having really proven that there are really significant differences between the sexes physiologically the next controversies may be in more cerebral “sports” like chess. For we know that it is not just bone, muscle, lung capacity, etc. that are affected.

In the meantime we are stuck with the internal contradictions of the feminist ascendancy, that gender is a social construct and has little or no biological basis yet simultaneously trumpeting females are mentally and physically vulnerable in a myriad of ways that males aren’t.
