Enjoy (video, 4:58). The late Christopher Hitchens’s response (in 2014) to a Vanity Fair piece challenging his earlier assertion (in a Vanity Fair article) that women aren’t funny. The video description is an extract from the video:
“Women don’t need to be funny, but for most men if they can’t make a woman laugh they are out of the evolutionary contest. They’re never going to get laid. Most men are fantastically unattractive. What women see in them is mysterious to most men, as well as most women. If you can’t make them laugh, you don’t have a chance. With women, there is no need to be rendering yourself attractive to men in that way — we already find you attractive.”

Piffle.
Most men are average-looking (almost by definition), as are most women. The only difference is that modern women mask this through the small fortune they spend on cosmetic enhancements. Take away all the makeup, the hair dye, etc. and dress them in the sort of traditional garb which women wore throughout history (not in the revealing and skintight clothes they wear these days) and most women would look as unremarkable as most men do.

That applies to both sexes. And certainly, these days I find myself asking “What does he see in her?” at least as often as I find myself asking the converse. Men today seem to have no standards at all when it comes to the women they choose.
…But one never knew whether Hitchens really believed the things that he said or whether he was just saying them to ruffle feathers and thus raise his public profile (and sell his books, of course).
It would be more accurate to say that most men are thirsty simps.
That’s why women realise they don’t have to strive to be amusing — or indeed to offer anything to a man besides their anatomy. The typical white male is an utter fool when it comes to women, squandering his life in either trying to amuse or impress a female enough that she’ll have sex with him, go out with him, marry him, or simply not be bored and leave him. She can be a total gorgon and he’ll still try desperately to hang onto her. It’s madness.
The Taliban must be laughing their heads off at western men…
