  1. In this awful case I expect a derisory sentence. However the evidence gives a window on “broken Britain” https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13164353/mother-accused-murdering-son-durham-999-call.htm

“Jurors have heard Dwelaniyah was in Robinson’s sole care as his father, Gabriel Adu-Appua – the defendant’s husband – was away serving with the RAF. She was pregnant at the time having used a sperm donor and was having an affair with a man she met online, the court has heard.”

I don’t suppose much sympathy will be accorded to Dwelaniyah’s father, though I expect his “absence” earning the money to support his cheating wife and poor son, will be used to suggest the mother was overwhelmed by being a “single parent”. Though not so to find time to get pregnant and have a lover.

  2. One of the many “uncomfortable truths” of our society is the idea children are at risk from their fathers. In fact 68% of child abusers are their mothers. Followed by mother’s boyfriend (or girlfriend of course). I was reminded of this by this conversation between Pearl and historian Rachel Wilson “Most Women Are Less Nurturing” Pearl And Rachel Wilson EXPLAIN Nurturing Statistics – YouTube As Rachel points out a good part of this is related to high levels of mental and emotional instability amongst women, reflected in mental health stats.
