Very interesting. In all the feminist searching there has never been found a “matriarchal” society, there are a few matrilineal societies and a few where the heiress in a propertied family becomes high status, in the absence of sons. Which has left feminism dependent of re hashes of the Bachofen thesis from the mid 19th century, that in prehistory there had been some idyllic matriarchal foraging society. Which of course means that “history” is when Patriarchy began. Which of course means that the over the past 6,000 years “patriarchy” has lifted the human race from its 100,000s of years of marginality as tiny clans scratching a living, to the billions now, who the majority live lives far far better than in those distant fragile clans and a substantial proportion live in comfort and safety unimaginable to J. J. Bachofen. Including of course the feminist “columnist” tapping out yet another opinion piece (perhaps on Barbie smashing baby Dolls) on her laptop while sipping a Latte before getting into her car and returning to her comfortable home with all “mod cons”. The truth of Camille Paglia’s comment about “if it was left to women we’d still live in grass huts”. If their own theory of the development of human society was true, then in fact they’d have to say a huge “thank you” to “patriarchy” for the unprecedented wealth and comfort they enjoy.
But of course unfortunately for the author, feminists have a belief, one completely separate from evidence, scientific method, simple logic or even common sense and observation. Fortunately for them that they call “patriarchy” continues to provide them with comfort and protection, while lifting billions of people out of poverty as they too want to experience a society so cosseted that it really can spend so much resources wondering how many “genders” can use a toilet.
