In one of the ironies of life I still look at media output through the “feminist” lens I was given on the various “gender equality ” and “diversity” courses I had to attend during my career in public services. It is interesting how differently this might have been reported had the sexes been reversed. In this report it seems a bit of a mystery why the man stayed with his wife and it is only way down the report and reported as almost a side issue that there are three young children. If the sexes were reversed the fact that the deceased was a mother and had stayed to protect her children and had changed her will to protect their future, would be taken as read. However that likely scenario is never suggested in this report, that the father stayed so as not to leave his boys at the mercy of someone who was clearly frightening, and made provision with his family for the future of his boys should his fears prove well founded. As a father of three myself I can imagine I would do anything to protect them I could! The reasons for his actions seem pretty easy to understand if you imagine him as a loving human being caring for his offspring. And of course as a man he’d know full well that an attractive young mother of three would get custody of the three if he left and the same if he “kicked her out”, which would cast him as the baddie.
Strangely with my “feminist” lens the sexism is plain to see.
