Mike Buchanan’s comments published in The Sunday Times

The Sunday Times today published an article by Martha Lane Fox, President of the British Chambers of Commerce, putting forward her organisation as an alternative ‘voice of business’. She approvingly referenced Helena Morrissey, which prompted me to post some comments.

Some of the comments’ content were automatically judged to be potentially ‘inappropriate’ – what a weasel word! – so the comments had to be reviewed by a human. A tip of the hat to the person who passed them for publication. Here they are:

I continue to be amazed that Helena Morrissey has any credibility, and I fail to see why her attacks (and those of other businesswomen) on the CBI should get such coverage. In 2012 I gave evidence to a House of Commons inquiry, pointing the MPs to numerous longitudinal studies showing a causal link between increasing Gender Diversity in the Boardroom (GDITB) and corporate financial DECLINE – links to that evidence on our website. Helena Morrissey was a leading light in the GDITB initiative after launching The 30% Club in 2010. I have challenged her a number of times – most recently, last December – to dispute those studies and/or provide evidence of a causal link between GDITB and corporate financial improvement. She has never responded to those challenges. It’s long overdue for the mainstream media to expose the GDITB initiative for what it is, a scam – an assault on meritocracy, companies and shareholders.
