The comments include some good points about this case. The first point is that the  Police and CPS can charge and prosecute an abuser even if the the victim won’t make a statement, so that is no reason to end the prosecution. The second is that a man with 22 previous convictions would get “time” even on the lesser charges of criminal damage.

And of course the general very different trajectory that is usual where the sexes are reversed and a woman had been a victim of a man with 22 previous convictions and an alcohol problem . No judge would say to him, “Grow up and be a good dad”.

As we know, men are assumed to be fully responsible for anthing they do, no matter how inebriated. As a number of reader comments say, all she has actually learned is that she can continue her violence after a 23rd conviction with a slap on the wrist.
