An appallingly anti-male piece in the Mail. The headline:

Despicable rant of Mel B’s ex: Stephen Belafonte hits back at claims he physically and mentally abused Spice Girl – and insists she is ‘infatuated’ with him.

The start of the piece:

The ex-husband of Spice Girl Mel B has launched an extraordinary tirade against her claim that he physically and mentally abused her throughout their ten year marriage – bizarrely claiming she is still ‘infatuated’ with him. [J4MB: The ‘tirade’ would only be ‘extraordinary’ if he were lying, which is the assumption throughout the piece.]

Demonstrating an astonishing lack of contrition, which is certain to infuriate the singer – who has been awarded an MBE for her campaigning against domestic violence – he also claims she should ‘be at peace’ and suggests she should stop bringing his name up in public.

She also claimed that her Spice Girls bandmates knew about the abuse and that she would not report domestic abuse because she doesn’t know if she can ‘trust the police’ in Britain. [J4MB: A simply absurd claim, given the police’s propensity to believe women and disbelieve men in cases of domestic abuse.]

Mel, 47, whose real name is Melanie Brown, is a patron of Women’s Aid and campaigns with the charity on domestic abuse issues.

Eighteen female guards at ‘Britain’s cushiest jail’ have been fired for having illicit affairs with inmates. Figures discovered in Freedom of Information requests found that the relationships took place over the past six years at HMP Berwyn, Britain’s biggest prison. The information follows three of the women ending up in court following the illicit liaisons at the Wrexham jail in North Wales.

Mark Fairhurst, chair of the Prison Officers’ Association, blamed the relationships on the hiring of ‘the wrong kind of women’. [J4MB: The heterosexual king?] He told the Mirror: ‘Staff being recruited don’t have face-to-face interviews… it’s all done on Zoom.

‘A lot of people getting these jobs don’t have enough life experience and are susceptible to conditioning from prisoners. Your figures just prove what we’ve been warning the employer about for years.’

The solution to this problem is blindingly obvious. Stop recruiting women as guards for men’s prisons.

Silicon Valley Bank was the 16th largest US bank prior to its collapse two days ago. It was the largest bank to collapse since the 2008 financial crisis.

The critical positions of Chief Risk Officer appear to have been a female monopoly. From an article in the Mail:

SVB’s former head of risk, Laura Izurieta, who formerly performed a similar role for Capital One, left the bank in April 2022. She wasn’t replaced until January 2023 when the bank hired Kim Olson, formerly of Japanese bank Sumitomo Mitsui…

Meanwhile, Jay Ersapah, who acts as CRO for the bank in Europe, Africa and the Middle East and who describes herself as a ‘queer person of color from a working-class background’ – organized a host of LGBTQ initiatives including a month-long Pride campaign and implemented ‘safe space’ catch-ups for staff.

In a corporate video published just nine months ago, she said she ‘could not be prouder’ to work for SVB serving ‘underrepresented entrepreneurs.’

She added: ‘Obviously this isn’t where things should be but shows when we are trying to change business culture, we need to move carefully to avoid creating the impression that only one ‘type’ of person will now succeed at the firm.’
