In a way this young man was fortunate that her later accusations were about a prominent “asian” businessman and a supposed “ring”. Because of course the resultant protests and vigilantism forced the Police to devote resources to dealing with here frankly outlandish claims. One can’t help think that here earlier MO of accusing ordinary young men could have continued on. For as he expresses the damage is done before any court case, already “named and shamed” and imprisoned, the previous victims of this woman’s lies (there were in fact a couple more not named in these DM reports)would not have been publicly vindicated . For as the CPS spokeswoman said the “bar” for prosecuting lies is set very high. In effect the lies have to cause significant local social unrest for anything to be done.
It seems very likely that across the country there are many unremarkable young men, like this one, unjustly accused who will never see justice done.

Thanks Nigel, agreed. Given that official statistics show that 77% of rape allegations made to the police in the UK are false (William, Collins, “The Empathy Gap”), there are indeed many men whose lives are ruined and never see justice. Either the police don’t ask the CPS for a prosecution decision, or they ask and the CPS declines. It should be mandatory to prosecute for false allegations.
