Classic. Stepping away from work to pursue ‘work/life balance’ has always been commonplace among women in senior positions, often enabled by well-off spouses who can finance the option (because of hypergamy, very few men are in such a fortunate position). The psychologist Susan Pinker (sister of Steven Pinker) nailed the phenomenon in The Sexual Paradox: Men, Women and the Real Gender Gap (2008). It’s just one of the reasons why it’s insane to preference women over men for recruitment and promotion.
