This interview (soon after we launched the party in 2013) sticks in my mind because over the past 10 years, it was the one in which my interviewer had best prepared for our discussion. An extract from the description I posted with it:

The day after my recent interview with Jeremy Vine on BBC Radio 2, I was interviewed by the respected journalist and broadcaster Julia Hartley-Brewer for her show on the leading London commercial radio station, LBC. She was very professional throughout and, impressively, she’d gone to the trouble of reading our consultation document in advance.

In the interview, after mentioning a number of the elements in the document, Julia stated the following: ‘I’m very surprised to say this, Mike, but I have an awful feeling you may have a point, scary as it is!’

What a pleasure it was to be interviewed by someone with such humanity and integrity, a feeling I didn’t experience during some other recent radio interviews.

Interesting. We’ve posted many stories of women convicted of drink driving, often after injuring people gravely, and almost invariably receiving suspended sentences, unlike men in the same situation. The police must feel – understandably – that stopping, arresting and charging women for drink driving (and so much else) is an exercise in utter futility. Have they simply given up doing so? What else could explain the fact that all the 23 drivers in this story are men?
