Unknown film directed by a woman is chosen as the best of all time.

Our thanks to Nigel for this hilarious piece on the BBC. The film is Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles. What? You’ve never heard of it? Where have you been, under a rock? An extract from the BBC piece:

Though not as well-known outside the world of film criticism as previous winners, it has been lauded as a “masterpiece”, and a ground-breaking piece of feminist film.

A “feminist masterpiece”? Not only is it a perfect example of an oxymoron, but shouldn’t it be a “feminist mistresspiece” or “feminist mspiece” to satisfy the blue-haired brigade?
