• “Introducing better data extraction technology to reduce the time that victims are without their phones – with an aim to have them returned by police within 24 hours. Currently this process can take months causing distress for victims left phoneless at a time when they most need support from friends and family”

• A deliberate attempt to reduce the efforts to find precisely the evidence that has so often ended trials, when it turns out the complainant has not been raped and was exchanging messages or revealing the truth through social media or messaging. Indeed it was the deliberate hiding of such evidence by either the police or CPS which caused many trials to collapse, the departure of Alison Saunders as well as withering criticism by the Criminal Bar Association, only two years ago.

• And the argument for making it difficult to investigate what is,these days vital evidence? So as not to inconvenience the complainant, as if mobile phones are some sort of special thing, rather than a device people frequently replace, lose, upgrade with remarkable ease and speed. Against the consequences for the defendant if such evidence is missed, years in prison and even more on a “register” that blights any prospects of employment in many sectors. Really does expose the complete disregard for any semblance of justice for defendants, if they are male. A bit of inconvenience in changing your phone or years of prison?
