Speakers’ Corner, London – where Men’s Rights Activists (MRAs) and other anti-feminists meet. Join us there, Sunday, 20 October.

Today was one of our most successful days ever at Speakers’ Corner, with a record turnout of supporters, including Jon B and two men from SIFF (Save Indian Family Foundation). We engaged with a lot of people, had many productive conversations, and handed out a large number of leaflets.

The highlight of the day was Elizabeth Hobson, our party’s Director of Communications, speaking publicly at Speakers’ Corner for the first time. She spoke very lucidly and coped admirably with some challenging people. We’ll be publishing some video of her shortly, but firstly a few of our photographs from the day:

Elizabeth reads her short introductory statement

Elizabeth was a key contributor to the The Non-Feminist Declaration.

Along with other Men’s Rights Activists (MRAs) and anti-feminists I visit Speakers’ Corner, London, on alternate Sundays, from approximately 10:30 onwards, staying for at least three hours, sometimes more. The next meeting will be on 20 October, when a number of us will wear the white attire as worn by Brother K, Bloodstained Men & Their Friends in the United States.

We’ll be taking a new approach on our anti-MGM campaigning, seeking to persuade parents not to circumcise their sons. We’ll be handing out new leaflets, and displaying new placards. One of the new placard designs is here.

I urge you to attend and support the speakers and other MRAs and anti-feminists who campaign there. We always have a great time, spreading the word on men’s issues, feminism, MGM…

We campaign for men and women to have equal rights, because women and girls have rights denied to men and boys in many areas. 20 such areas were explored in  our 2015 general election manifesto. One of our “equal rights” placard designs is here.

We campaign against Male Genital Mutilation (MGM), a crime under the Offences Against the Persons Act 1861, being at least ABH, and almost certainly GBH. The party’s playlist of 100+ video and audio pieces relating to MGM is here. It includes footage taken at Speakers’ Corner.

If you’d like to know if Mike and others are planning to attend Speakers’ Corner on a particular Sunday, please contact us (info@j4mb.org.uk).

Members of The London Group are invariably present at Speakers’ Corner on the same days, some of them speaking on stepladders about men’s issues, feminism etc.

Are almost all women MENTALLY INSANE?

Driving near my home today, a car going in the opposite direction was being driven by a woman. The licence plate read:

WE11 MAD

Elizabeth Hobson will be speaking publicly at Speakers’ Corner in two days’ time, Sunday

We campaign every two weeks at Speakers’ Corner, on the corner of Hyde Park, details here. I’m delighted to announce that Elizabeth Hobson will be publicly speaking in two days’ time, some time after 10:30. I’ve just had a sneak preview of her short introductory speech, and it’s a belter, as you’d expect. I’ll be donning garb (white boiler suit with a red crotch) as worn by an American anti-MGM campaigning group, The Bloodstained Men & Their Friends. Please join us, even if you haven’t been there before. It would be great to see an even bigger turnout than usual.

Glass Blind Spot has beaten us to it, in publishing Philip Davies’s recent speech onto YouTube, yesterday – here (video, 6:50). The comments stream too is interesting, I invite you to leave comments there rather than here.

Our thanks to GBS for the video file, whikch we’ve just posted on our own YouTube channel – here.

Shootings and Fatherlessness: A Clarification on the Data

A key donor has enquired about the link between fatherlessness and mass shootings in the United States. A Google search with “mass shootings, fatherlessness” leads to many articles, including this on an American Catholic website. An extract:

Of the 27 deadliest mass shooters, the vast majority came from broken families with no biological dad at home. Obviously, this doesn’t mean that boys raised in fatherless families are likely to become mass shooters. But it’s yet further affirmation of what we already know: boys need dads. Just as daughters need dads. Children need fathers. They also need mothers.

Philip Davies MP – coverage of his contribution to the Domestic Abuse Bill, in The Yorkshire Post

We monitor the mainstream media for mentions of Philip Davies MP, and so far the only coverage we’ve seen of his contribution to yesterday’s Domestic Abuse Bill second reading is in this piece in The Yourshire Post. The full extract:

In the same debate Tory MP for Shipley Philip Davies said parental alienation should be seen as a form of domestic abuse.

Philip Davies said it was a “growing phenomenon” and “leads to suicide amongst people” as he called for its inclusion in the Bill.

Mr Davies said he had been “increasingly troubled” by the levels of parental alienation where one parent tries to turn the children against the other parent, using their child as a “weapon in their dispute”.

He said: “I think that where there is no good reason for a parent to remove the contact of that child from the other parent, I think that parental alienation should in itself be seen as a form of domestic abuse.”

He added: “I think that when a child is deliberately turned against the other parent for no good reason, that should be included in the definition of domestic abuse.”

Mr Davies added that when people make a false allegation of domestic abuse, the Government should consider that to be a form of domestic abuse in the legislation.

He said: “That is one of the most terrible things that somebody could be wrongly accused of.”

Mr Davies said he wanted to try and stop the idea that “domestic violence is a gender based crime, it is not.”

He added: “We will be doing a huge disservice if we were to run away with that idea and make this piece of legislation work only on that basis.

“Men are perpetrators of domestic violence, men are victims of domestic violence. Women are perpetrators of domestic violence, women are victims of domestic violence.”

He added: “We in this House have a duty to treat everybody equally before the law and I hope that – it doesn’t matter whether the perpetrator is a man or a woman, they should face the full rigour of the law and whether the victim’s a man or a woman, they should have exactly the same safeguards by this House.”

He went on: “So let’s not say – this isn’t gender based violence, this is unacceptable violence by all sorts of people and we should treat them all equally before the law.”

Intervening, Tory chairwoman of the Women and Equalities Committee Maria Miller said: “He needs to accept the facts that women are more affected by domestic violence than any other group.” [J4MB: Does Philip “need to accept” that more white people are affected, than any othrt group?]

And later Tracy Brabin, MP for Batley and Spen said women were twice as likely to suffer as victims of domestic abuse and men were more likely to be perpetrators. [J4MB: She’s wrong on both counts.] She said the gendered nature of domestic abuse could not be ignored. [J4MB: Wrong again. Domestic abuse is NOT gendered.]
