Australia: Senator Pauline Hanson speaks out against lies about domestic violence in the family courts

Our thanks to Douglas for the following:

Senator Pauline Hanson is currently deputy chair of a parliamentary inquiry into family law. One of the problems is that Australia, like much of the Anglo nations, has family court sessions that are effectively secret courts, so the information on what is going on is an accumulation of anecdote rather than any major study. Academic study would only be possible if the court sessions were not in secret.

Pauline Hanson lashes family court ‘liars’

Senator Hanson says some women are making up domestic violence allegations or falsely accusing ex-partners of molesting their children.

“There are people out there who are nothing but liars and who will use that in the court system,” she told ABC radio on Wednesday.

“Don’t throw domestic violence orders against your ex-partners just to further your case or get control of the children.”

The usual power-elites want to hold on to their feminist narrative. Note the Guardian’s switch from Hanson’s discussion of false accusers to ‘victims’, Hanson is not saying that victims are lying, she is saying that some people lie about being a victim.

Pauline Hanson sparks fury with claim domestic violence victims are lying to family court

A controversial new inquiry into the family court system being pushed by Pauline Hanson will go ahead, despite anger from anti-domestic violence campaigners and opposition from Labor and the Greens.

However, despite the feminist furor, the senator is holding to her statements Hanson repeats claims about DV lies

“I’ve had about 4000 emails, letters, that have come through my office since I’ve been re-elected, to try and do something about it. I get pulled up just doing my grocery shopping by people begging me to do something about it.”

Senator Hanson said it was against the law for people to discuss family law cases, and the media could not report on them.

(Note that in the UK, journalists are allowed to attend family court, though there are restrictions on reporting where children are involved.)
