Johnny Depp has won his defamation lawsuit against Amber Heard over a Washington Post op-ed she wrote last year where she referred to herself as “a public figure representing domestic abuse.”

Given that Depp’s counter-allegations, that Heard was in fact the abuse perpetrator in their relationship, appear (given the result) to be true; Amber Heard is lucky to have only lost money and reputation – and not her liberty.

I recently bought a tent and allied equipment, with money donated by a generous Australian supporter for my personal use. I look forward to taking more regular and more affordable holidays in future. I’ll be off later today for a few days of camping – £20 per night for a pitch at a five-star site – and for the first time in years leaving my laptop behind. I’ll still be passing comments on blog pieces on my smartphone from time to time, but otherwise plan to focus on getting some rest, mosquitoes permitting. I’ll be back at work next Wednesday.

Hurrah, finally my #MenTour is underway. We have three Queensland venues booked in for October:
Sunshine Coast – Monday October 7.
Bundaberg – Wednesday October 9
Townsville – Friday October 11.
All the details of times, venues etc are on Fanforce, the organisation which is helping me make this all happen. Booking are available through the site.
Fanforce is an organisation that normally helps people host movies in their local area. This is the first time Fanforce has been involved in a speaking tour and it will be interesting to see how it all takes off.

We have a bunch of people in each area who have agreed to help with promotion but need more. Please contact Fanforce if you can help and they’ll send you material you can use for getting the message out.
It would be great if you could all promote this link on social media, and tell everyone you know with good contacts in these areas to help make this happen.
My main goal is to use these speaking events to get onto local media to spread the word about the issues I am passionate about, hopefully even getting on local ABC programmes which tend to be less captured by ideologues than their colleagues in the cities. I’ll be putting together a video showing you how it all works out.
If you’d like me to come and speak in your area, please contact Fanforce. I am particularly interested in travelling to rural areas, away from the major cities, because that way the events will attract more media interest. It looks like the next trip will be NSW and South Australia in early December –combining a few talks with a little bit of cycling. Yes, I am back on the bike – but obviously very carefully! We are driving from Sydney through to the Fleurieu Peninsula, so possible towns for speaking on the way could include Albury, Ballarat, Mildura, Geelong, with a definite stop in Temora, where I have family connections. The plan is pretty relaxed at the moment so if you live anywhere on this route or have good contacts in relevant areas, please let me know.
After that … well, I will come to anywhere in Australia where we have people on the ground to help promote the events, ideally with a couple of places for each trip.

Since the publication of The Non-Feminist Declaration, last year, I have been responsible for updating the associated blog. I have received a significant number of signatories submitting their details, the vast majority of which are still waiting to be added to the public list. At the Chicago conference I joined Karen Straughan for a glass or two of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, and she kindly gave me one of the last 10 remaining campaign leaflets of the Patriarchy Party, led by Nick Reading in 2013. A PDF of the two-sided leaflet is here. It was mainly written by Alison Tieman, with Karen’s help.
