Forget Merit: Get More Women into Engineering – No Joke Janice, episode 21

Janice nails it, as always (video, 13:46). I shall henceforth accelerate when I’m about to drive under a bridge, to reduce my chances of being crushed to death by a collapsing bridge designed by a feminist.

Boxer Suspended For Kissing Reporter – No Joke Janice Episode 22

Our thanks to Sean for this. Elizabeth and I are looking forward to meeting Janice again at the Chicago conference, less than three months away. Janice will be giving the keynote speech.

Regarding Men #16: Misandrist Buses

Very good (video, 33:36). One of the stories covered by Paul, Tim, and Janice, is that of a young American woman – with a history as a domestic violence perpetrator – being verbally abusive towards people on a bus. An elderly man with a walking frame asked her to “be nicer” whereupon she forcefully shoved him, using both hands, through the open door of the bus.

Nobody came to his help as he lay motionless on  the ground, and nobody sought to apprehend the woman. The man died a month later from his brain injuries. The woman wasn’t arrested until after the man died. Clearly the police today – in the US at least – don’t consider a young woman shoving an elderly man with a walking frame off a bus an arrestable offence in itself, until and unless the man later dies as a result.

Good Morning Britain: “Is it OK to not be a feminist?”

A couple of days ago I received an email from the (female) producer of Good Morning Britain, asking if I could be in the studio the next morning for a discussion on the issue, “Is it OK to not be a feminist?” (I had my mobile phone with me while I was away from my room, but didn’t receive a call.) When I read the email – an hour or two after it was sent – I replied explaining I was out of the country on holiday, but Elizabeth Hobson would surely make a great contribution. But by then they’d decided on another option, Kate Andrews of the Institute of Economic Affairs.

A video of the discussion is here (9:14). Early on Kate cited surveys showing that the majority of women don’t self-identify as feminists, which predictably led to this subtitle:

Kate Andrews believes a lot of women are not feminists.

Believes, huh? I expect she also believes the sun rises in the East.

This is the fifth or sixth time we’ve been invited to appear on GMB, but things have got in the way. We’ll get on the programme yet!
