Good Morning Britain: “Is it OK to not be a feminist?”

A couple of days ago I received an email from the (female) producer of Good Morning Britain, asking if I could be in the studio the next morning for a discussion on the issue, “Is it OK to not be a feminist?” (I had my mobile phone with me while I was away from my room, but didn’t receive a call.) When I read the email – an hour or two after it was sent – I replied explaining I was out of the country on holiday, but Elizabeth Hobson would surely make a great contribution. But by then they’d decided on another option, Kate Andrews of the Institute of Economic Affairs.

A video of the discussion is here (9:14). Early on Kate cited surveys showing that the majority of women don’t self-identify as feminists, which predictably led to this subtitle:

Kate Andrews believes a lot of women are not feminists.

Believes, huh? I expect she also believes the sun rises in the East.

This is the fifth or sixth time we’ve been invited to appear on GMB, but things have got in the way. We’ll get on the programme yet!
