Alex Skeel: Abused by my Girlfriend

If you have a BBC TV licence, you’ll be able to watch this (video, 50:00) on iPlayer at any point over the coming five months. If you don’t, you might like to catch this (video, 5:47), extracts prepared by BBC3. The BBC’s description of the programme:

Abused By My Girlfriend tells the remarkable story of Alex Skeel, a 23-year-old man from Bedford who survived an abusive relationship with his girlfriend Jordan Worth.

Combining observational filming with personal and police archive, this film provides a raw and uninhibited window into a teenage romance that descended into terrible violence.

Alongside Alex’s shocking and thought-provoking testimony, his family and friends also share their stories of seeing him slowly slip away, powerless to stop it, and unaware of how bad it would get.

Bedfordshire Police described Alex’s case as one of the most extreme cases of domestic violence they had ever dealt with. In hospital, doctors examined Alex’s body and told him that he was just ten days away from death.

In April 2018, Jordan was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison. She became the first female in the UK to be convicted of coercive and controlling behaviour.

By sharing his story, Alex hopes to challenge assumptions about violence and masculinity in relationships, and to empower victims of domestic violence to come forward.

Anna Soubry hails Independent Group as the modern face of politics as defectors vow to break two party system: “Two thirds of us are women – that says a lot”

Our thanks to Ron for this. He writes:

So, two thirds of the defectors being women “says a lot”, eh? To me, it says at the very least that women are more disloyal than men, and less hardworking. The three Tory women are no loss to the party. Their claim that the Conservative party has moved to the right is absurd. The party has been drifting to the left – particularly on social policy issues, except where that would benefit men – for the past 15 years, at least. Long gone are the days when it was a “conservative” party.

Lesbian and bisexual women at increased risk of being overweight. Gay men at reduced risk.

Our thanks to Mike P for this. The notion that lesbian and bisexual women are at increased “risk” of being overweight is ridiculous, and of course denies them moral agency. Maybe lesbian and bisexual women simply care less than straight women about being land whales, so they eat and drink more, and exercise less. Just a thought.

DeAnna Lorraine and Omar Navarro to host Tribute to Men rally in Washington, 1/3/19

“There will be a multitude of famous political speakers sharing on why men in America SHOULD BE CELEBRATED and not vilified for being the strong male figures they were called to be.

Let’s come to together to show America and the mainstream media the great numbers of people that believe the profound truth that STRONG MEN EQUALS A STRONG NATION.”

Bus to provide shelter for homeless men in Manchester

Our thanks to Nigel for pointing out the excellent work of the charity Embassy, who say:

”Our bus will provide 14 extra beds right away. That’s 5,110 nights off the street in the next year.

Having consulted the people who work closest to those who are homeless and assessed the immediate need on the streets, our first bus will be for vulnerable male adults. With more funding other buses could be deployed in future to help other groups.

The bus provides safety at night and the rest that is vital so people can face the process of finding permanent accommodation and restoration. It also gives people a place to make connections to other organisations and agencies, empowering people to get back on their feet.”

Statue of WW2 kiss vandalised after US sailor’s death

The famous Sarasota statue, “Unconditional Surrender”, depicting George Mendonsa kissing Greta Zimmer Friedman in an ecstatic act of celebration on the Day World War Two ended has been daubed with “#MeToo” the day after the veteran died.

In a Time article, Zimmer Friedman’s son explained that “she understood the argument that it was an assault but did not necessarily view it that way”.

The graffiti has been removed, at a cost of $1000+.

Lacking CCTV, evidence or witnesses, Sarasota police are appealing for information to lead to the identification of the perpetrator/s.

100 vaginas

Our thanks to a number of people who’ve informed us of an hour-long TV “documentary” screened on Channel 4 last night, 100 vaginas. The description on the Channel 4 website:

Documentary artist Laura Dodsworth photographs women and hears their intimate, shocking, moving, powerful or funny stories about how their vaginas have shaped their lives.

Jim writes:

This programme is a testament to female self-absorption, and has a thread of feminist propaganda running through it, as we’d expect of Channel 4 – including feminist narratives on rape (complete with dodgy stats) and FGM. Early in the programme there’s a sequence where women pull blood-soaked tampons from their vaginas. What next for a TV documentary? Women urinating and defecating? Those are “natural” too, but would be “empowering” if women did them for TV – but utterly disgusting if men did, of course. What times we live in.

Article by “HOPE not hate” on HuffPo: MRAs criticised for presenting themselves as “censored”, HuffPo removes comment with link to ICMI19 website

Sometimes our enemies make it so easy to expose their duplicity, it’s almost embarrassing. HuffPo is clearly as keen on censorship as another infamous left-wing fake news outlet, The Guardian.

Earlier this evening I posted a blog piece linking to a woeful article by a “researcher” (in truth, a fiction writer) from “HOPE not hate”, published shortly earlier by HuffPo – here. I posted comments on two occasions, which were duly published, to HuffPo’s credit (it hurt me to write that).

In one of them I provided a link to the ICMI19 website, but I got the URL slightly wrong, so it was a “broken link”, and someone let me know. So I posted a correction, it was published, but I later noted it had been removed. I posted the correction again, this time taking a screensave. I checked a minute later, to find the correction – and therefore the only link to the ICMI19 website – had already been removed. I checked again 25 minutes later, it hadn’t reappeared, so I took another screensave. Both screensaves are here.

From the HuffPo article:

In contrast, anti-feminist ‘Men’s Right’s Activists’ (MRA) like J4MB have the clearest path to growth. This is because they employ a framework (however misguidedly) of human rights activism. MRA’s efforts aim at mobilising those who not only do not see themselves as feminists but who believe feminism to be inherently harmful.

To this end, MRAs follow the current far-right trend of presenting themselves as martyrs for free speech; censored for merely trying to speak the ‘truth’ about ‘dangerous’ progressive ideas. [J4MB emphasis]
