Interesting, and the same old excuse for what seems more like looking for problems in women and ignoring them in men. My father’s death last year was attributed to end stage dementia, if I recall correctly, and he had only recently been diagnosed with mixed dementia (vascular dementia and Alzheimer’s). Several agencies were involved in his case, at least four as I recall, excluding the NHS (GP and hospitals), and none seemed to be talking to any of the others; each ploughed its own furrow.
My wife and I moved into his flat to care for him and because we assumed that we’d be looking after him for at least two years, possibly four or five, we disposed of all our furniture. He must have been very near the end when we moved in because he was taken into hospital twelve days after that and died thirteen days later, yet none of the organisations dealing with him seemed to be aware of the seriousness of his condition.
I was left believing that the health system has little if any idea how to deal with men suffering from dementia.
