William Collins: Universal Suffrage in the UK – The Videos

An outstanding piece from Mr Collins, linking to his 25 audio pieces with slides. It starts with this:

This is a shameless bit of advertising. I have made my first – and possibly last – foray onto YouTube.

The epochal 1918 Representation of the People Act will have its centenary in February 2018. This Act gave the vote to the majority of women for the first time in the UK. It also gave the vote to a far larger number of men than any other kindred Act. It is right that it should be celebrated. But it should be celebrated as a triumph for the principle of democracy – that the Parliamentary vote is a matter of right, not a matter of wealth.

My concern is that it may be celebrated for the wrong reasons. So my videos are a pre-emptive strike.

Janet Street-Porter: The night a sexual predator propositioned me in front of my husband and why I never mentioned it for years because I partly blamed myself

Our thanks to Jeff for this. In 2012, the year before J4MB was launched, JS-P was presented with a Harpy award by the Anti-Feminism League. The next year we published a piece titled Janet Street-Porter: the most vile woman in Britain?

In her latest piece in the Mail JS-P writes this:

When does a sexual advance cross over into harassment? Can a proposition ever be OK if it is in the workplace? The answer is very simple – harassment happens when the person seeking gratification is in a more powerful position than their victim.

This begs the question, of course, by what we mean by ‘more powerful’. Women are strongly driven by hypergamy, and one of its clearest manifestations is a willingness to have sex with high-status men, in the hope of future influence, professional advancement, or a relationship. Women trade their sexual power in exchange for men’s power, in whatever form that appears. Then JS-P writes what I can only assume to be an outright lie:

At the start of my television career, I remember sitting at dinner with a top agent, my husband at the other end of the table, when the guy leant across and offered me a reduction in his commission and plenty of work if I would give him the occasional blow job.

London named best megacity for women; mayor says more to be done

Give me strength. An extract:

“There is no other city in the world where I would want to raise my daughters,” Mayor Sadiq Khan, who assumed office in May 2016, told the Thomson Reuters Foundation.

The first Muslim to lead any Western capital, Khan wants his city to be a trailblazer on gender equality too.

He praised London as one of the world’s most progressive capitals, where women take key roles across society, leading heavily male-dominated workforces that fight fires, catch criminals and run governments.

But the mayor warned against complacency.

He highlighted the city’s significant gender pay gap and said there were still too few women role models at the highest levels in public life.

“As a proud feminist, I’m committed to doing everything I can to remove these barriers to women,” he added.

“I want London to not only be the best city in the world to be a woman, I want it to be a trailblazer in fighting (for) gender equality in all its shapes and forms.”

“In all its shapes and forms”? Suicide? Unemployment? Cancer deaths? Genital mutilations?

Samantha Murray-Evans, mother, 44, cried rape after a one night stand with hero policeman, 55, who she met on a dating website. Jailed for 27 months.

Our thanks to Jeff for this. The start of the piece:

A mother who falsely accused a hero police officer of rape after a one night stand has been jailed for 27 months.

Samantha Murray-Evans, 44, told the ‘wicked lie’ in revenge at being rejected by PC Paul Morgan after they met on the dating website Plenty of Fish.

A court heard Mr Morgan broke off their fling when she sent him sordid messages and pictures of her breasts after their first and only date.

When Murray-Evans felt she had been spurned by the officer she went to the police and accused him of raping her, Swansea Crown Court heard.

Mr Morgan, 52, who won a bravery award for saving a woman from drowning in a river, was arrested at home by his own colleagues, held in a cell for 24 hours and suspended for five weeks while the allegation was investigated.

He even considered suicide. He may well have been convicted of rape were it not for the discovery of flirtatious WhatsApp messages sent by Murray-Evans after their one-night stand three years ago.

Janet Bloomfield (JudgyBitch) penned a famous piece in 2014, 13 reasons women lie about rape. She needs to add another reason, based on this case and many other similar ones, vengeance against men for sex not resulting in the start of a relationship.

Jacob Rees-Mogg refuses to adopt feminist label, saying it would be ‘ridiculous’

Our thanks to Gary for this. Some of the content is too depressing for words. The emphases in these extracts are ours:

The Tory MP was asked whether he was a feminist during a discussion at the Cheltenham Literature Festival.

He responded by saying that he is able to say he supports feminists but believes women should be the ones to decide whether somebody is actually feminist…

I can say I support feminists. But I think for me to say I am a feminist is claiming for myself that, as Jess Phillips says, is probably for her to decide.”

The Tory backbencher also admitted he would receive far more abuse if he were to be female.

He added: “This is something we should take really seriously. The abuse of women online for sharing their views is a disgrace.”…

In a display of cross-party friendship, Mr Rees-Mogg also asked the audience to applaud Ms Phillips’ father for bringing up such a “splendid” daughter.

The Mogg has lost our vote. White male Tory MPs were the most abused MPs on social media before the last general election.
