Jess Phillips MP is accused of wasting taxpayers’ money by using prepaid Commons envelopes to bombard her constituents with election propaganda

Interesting. Extracts:

A prominent Labour MP has been accused of wasting taxpayers’ money after she used prepaid Commons envelopes and headed notepaper to bombard constituents with election propaganda.

Jess Phillips boasted of the service she had given to local people and announced she would be standing again as MP for Birmingham Yardley in a mailing blitz just days after the Theresa May called the snap poll.

One constituent received two letters from Mrs Phillips in two days setting out her positions on both the NHS and social care, despite never contacting the MP…

Mrs Phillips, who is defending a majority of 6,595, was last night ‎reported to parliamentary authorities over concerns she may have broken Commons rules that forbid the use of stationery for political purposes…

Former Lib Dem MP John Hemming, who is hoping to win back the seat after being defeated by Mrs Phillips at the last election, has reported her to the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards.

However, the issue is unlikely to be resolved before the election as once Parliament dissolves on Wednesday the Commissioner will be unable to begin any fresh inquiries or to resolve any that are in hand…

Last night Mrs Phillips said: ‘I keep in touch with my constituents every week, last week was no exception.

‘The letters will have been sent because the constituent wrote to us on that specific subject. In this case the NHS and/or social care.

‘They may not think they have written to us because they don’t realise that when they click an online petition it sends us an automatic email in their name.

‘We are simply responding to them.’

This is what an anti-feminist looks like

I’m pleased to say sales of shirts from the J4MB store have risen sharply since we added some new designs recently. The one that seems to raise eyebrows the most is the one with ‘This is what an anti-feminist looks like’. I was wearing it during my journey back from Denver, and at baggage reclaim in Heathrow a Texan woman, maybe in her 40s, came up to me and said this:

Great shirt design! It’s about damned time men stood up to those evil family-wrecking women!!!

That design, and others, can be viewed here.

Listen: Diane Abbott’s car-crash interview on Labour’s plan for extra policemen

Comedy gold (audio, 2:47). Nick Ferrari, the LBC interviewer, presided over another train crash interview in the run-up to the 2015 general election, with the leader of the Green Party at the time, Natalie Bennett. The conclusion to be drawn is inevitable:

We need more female politicians.

One obvious example would be Sophie Walker, leader of the Wimmin’s Equality Party, for referring to Philip Davies as ‘anti-women’ for suggesting that men and women receive the same prison sentences for the same crimes. What craven misogyny.

Elizabeth Hart-Browne, 27-year-old mother of two who stabbed her abusive boyfriend three times in the neck and told police ‘I’ve killed the man I love’ weeps as she is CLEARED of murder

Our thanks to Mike P for this. Extracts:

Jeweller Elizabeth Hart-Browne, 27, broke down in tears at the Old Bailey today as she was cleared of murdering her violent boyfriend Stephen Rayner.

The mother-of-two stabbed Stephen Rayner, 25, three times with a kitchen knife after drinking at a party on the night of 17 September last year…

Jurors heard she had knifed Mr Rayner twice before [my emphasis] – but acquitted Ms Hart-Browne of murder at the Old Bailey today after deliberating for 14 hours and 55 minutes.

She claimed she had picked up the blade in the course of a violent struggle when they were entwined like a ‘twisted pretzel’ and ‘forgot’ she was holding it when the blows were struck.

Milo Yiannopolous announces new media venture called ‘MILO Inc.’

Our thanks to Paul for this. Extracts:

Milo Yiannopolous has been quiet since the University of California Berkeley practically burned down its own campus to prevent him from speaking, but the self-described “media sensation, conservative celebrity and youth culture icon” says he’s spent the last few months forming up a major media conglomerate and he’s ready to take on political correctness in a big way.

Dubbed, “MILO Inc.,” Yiannopolous’s new venture will include, he says, a publishing platform, an event management arm, and a “talent factory” dedicated to “the destruction of political correctness and the progressive left.”…

And Milo is already predicting success, with characteristic modesty. “I’m deeply humbled and honored, of course. Obviously, I’ve done a lot of soul-searching over the past few months and I’ve come to a conclusion,” his Facebook post continued.

“I’ve realized that I’m really, really important. There’s a war being waged out there for free speech and I’m the only one who can win it for the forces of light.”
