Ray Barry is the leader of Real Fathers for Justice, and will be standing as a candidate for J4MB at the general election. This morning he was interviewed on BBC Radio WM on the subject, ‘Should absent parents be punished for failing to pay their child support demands?’ Ray’s section starts at 47:47 and it’s worth catching some remarks made by the presenter, up to 55:37. The programme is here.
The piece will be available on iPlayer for 7 days, and we’ll put it on our YouTube channel in due course.

Yes, the interviewer’s remark echoed precisely what Ray had just said about fathers’ alienation from their children and suicide. Sometimes it’s almost as if the message is getting across…

Really impressed with Ray’s media appearances. He has so much compassion and it was fantastic how he explained things so clearly and concisely. The best aspect of this piece is how he joined the dots between all the relevant issues – non -payment for CSA, to contact denial, misuse of CS payments, the relevant gaps in the law, and then finally onto suicide. I couldn’t have scripted that exchange any better myself, even with a week to think about it.
Clips like this show the great work that’s being done, it might be worth compiling some of the best examples and linking to them whenever you have a fundraising drive? Alternatively, how about we just promote clips like this and add a reminder to donate at the end of them?

Thanks for this. Ray’s very good at radio interviews over the phone – I tend to get somewhat agitated when interviewed that way, much preferring to be in a studio having eye contact with the presenter, e.g. Jenni Murray on ‘Woman’s Hour’. When we load this (along with a number of other recent radio interviews) onto our YouTube channel, we’ll put our customary request for donations on the cover image.

Ray is indeed fully wired and presents himself and his points really well. I’d like to see Mike and Ray trounce some of the guests on Woman’s Hour together as a joint force. But dreaming is a fine thing as the BBC would never subject their feminist invitees and respective listeners to what could only be described as a one-way street to guaranteed humiliation!
