A couple of days ago I had an interesting discussion with a MHRA, Peter, who pointed me to some very interesting material generated by a Norwegian comedian, about the ‘Norwegian paradox’ – why was it that in the country judged to have the highest gender equality in the world, the genders persist decade after decade to go into traditionally gender-typical lines of work?
The comedian’s documentaries led to the Norwegian government taking decisive action against The Nordic Gender Institute. This story will be of particular interest to anyone interested in gender-typical behaviour differences, nature / nurture, and the extent to which differences may or may not be the result of gender differences in brain ‘wiring’. It makes a mockery, of course, of initiatives such as that at Brunel University in which female postgraduate engineering students are paid an addition grant of £15,000 on the grounds of gender alone.
Psychologists come out well in this programme, sociologists not. Sociologists are left in the unhappy position of denying the validity of more and more material every year showing how important ‘nature’ is in driving gender-typical differences.
I’ve watched the first video (38:53) in its entirety, and I recommend it strongly. Professor Simon Baron-Cohen, a world-renowned psychology professor at Trinity College, Cambridge, makes an appearance (20:17 – 25:08). He was the author of a book I recommend to people all the time, The Essential Difference (2003).
The remainder of this blog post is from Peter, who I thank warmly for pointing me to this:
“Here’s the link to ‘Hjernevask’ – the amazing Norwegian documentary I talked about:

Look for part 1, the one about ‘gender’, with English subtitles. As a result of the documentary, which basically proves that gender feminism is a load of unscientific balls, the Norwegian government dismantled and de-funded the Nordic Gender Institute:

It’s absolutely hilarious watching Prof. Simon Baron-Cohen just pull apart feminist logic with a sort of tired, ‘God-I-can’t-believe-I-have-to-refute-this-nonsense’ air.”
Excellent video. Surprise nobody else has commented on it.

Indeed excellent and if only such programmes were aired here. I was also heartened by this
