Times caption: The clumsy driver, 75, punctured a tyre and lost most of her front bumper
Women drivers, eh? A piece by Oliver Moody for The Times two days ago:
To scrape paint off a car while parking may be regarded as a misfortune. To dent two looks like carelessness. But to hit ten is almost an achievement.
Congratulations, then, to a German pensioner who inadvertently rampaged through a car park in Magdeburg as she lost control while parking.
The 75-year-old woman, who has not been named, had guided her Mazda into a space but was apparently dissatisfied. As she pulled back to straighten her vehicle she drove into two cars parked behind her. She accelerated forward into a third car before careering off on a zig-zag of destruction.
By the time she was finished the airbags were out, most of her front bumper had fallen off and one of her rear tyres was punctured. The woman was unhurt and told police that she had no recollection of what had happened.
Officers said the damage ran to five figures. It could be a record: in 2015 a 92-year-old driver in Wisconsin managed to smash only nine cars.
