A piece in yesterday’s Sunday Times:
Universities have representatives for all sorts of groups — from lesbians to ethnic minorities — and now men are calling for their voice on campus to be heard too.
Neil Ogden became what is thought to be the UK’s only representative for male students following his election at the University of Central Lancashire last week.
The mature student, 38, who said he had been the object of some ridicule, believes men are “underrepresented” and accuses universities of failing to address “differences in how men and women interact with services or access support at university”.
The introduction of a men’s officer has also been discussed by members of the student union at Edinburgh University and De Montfort University. Last month James Knight, sole candidate for the inaugural position of men’s officer at the University of the West of England, pulled out after an online trolling campaign.
