90% of street homeless people are men. Worthing Council wants to criminalise them. Please sign an online petition.

Street homelessness reduces life expectancy by an average of 30 years, and about 90% of street homeless people are men. We covered the issue of homelessness in our 2015 general election manifesto (pp.40-5). Our thanks to a number of people for pointing us towards a petition. Please join us in signing it, which will only take you a moment. Thank you.

About Mike Buchanan

I'm a men's human rights advocate, writer, and publisher. My primary focus is leading the political party I launched in 2013, Justice for Men & Boys (and the women who love them). I still work actively on two campaigns I launched in early 2012, Campaign for Merit in Business and the Anti-Feminism League. In 2014 I launched The Alternative Sexism Project, aiming to raise public understanding that the sexism faced by men and boys has far more grievous consequences than the sexism faced by women and girls.

I’ve signed, and I wrote this:

This proposal is simply another politically motivated attack on men, in this case men who have already suffered so many attacks that they are absolutely at the bottom of the heap. We’ve all read of the ‘beggars’ who live in expensive semis and drive expensive cars but they are a rare exception to the norm, if they exist at all. The overwhelming majority of homeless men are on the streets because the legal system, the health system, the benefits system, and often the women who once claimed to love them have kicked the stuffing out of them.

This proposal is a disgrace in a supposedly civilised and caring society.

  • Considering the way western women treat their men nowadays,it leaves me thoroughly perplexed as to why men still treat women with awe and respect. I’m afraid it is completely misplaced and counterproductive. Trying to criminalize homelessness is the last straw. The time has come to teach men to start treating women in a similar fashion. In fact it’s long overdue.

The time has come to teach men to start treating women in a similar fashion.

That is not possible as things stand. The task, at present, is to overcome centuries of gynocentric indoctrination in order to bring men to thinking tribally and becoming politically active. Only when men have real political power can the mess be cleared up and the education of boys refocused on their needs and their long term interests as men.

  • Council: “You can’t sleep rough, it’s against the law”

homeless man: “Will the council give me a house? ”

C: “No. you’re not female or an ethnic minority so you can look after yourself. You owe us £50”

H: “I have no money, I lost my job after losing my house”

C: “Ah well now you owe us £1000”

    H: “I have no money………

C: “Please pay us some money, after giving all our houses away to non-working women, who pay nearly no council tax, we’re a bit short….

    H: “I have no money”

    C: “Prison for you then”

    H: “At least I’ll get a bed……”

Got it in one. Absurd, isn’t it, to fine a man who literally has nothing more than some dirty clothes and stinking sleeping bag with nowhere safe to sleep in it.

  • Criminalizing poverty is nothing new to England. Except nowadays it is solely directed at men as the numerous help initiatives are clearly gendered. Your petition definitely has my vote.

    • Many thanks. It’s not our petition, but we’re 100% behind it.

  • William, I disagree. The only thing men need to realize is that they are no longer dealing with the kind of women happy raising kids and looking after the household. The way they did a century ago, or even 50 years ago. Today’s women compete with men for jobs, leadership, education,etc..and as such, are entirely different from the women of yesteryear and do not deserve the exceptional treatment as accorded to them in the past. . This is the only thing men need to realize. Once most men realize this, they can begin to adjust their behavior towards women and start treating them no more preferentially than they treat other men. Men must move away from this 1900th century mindset. Sad,but necessary.

That hadn’t occurred to me. Thank you for your unique insight.

    • Exactly so. Equality and Equity. “Working age” men are at the very end of the list for help. I should know I worked in local Gov. social care for 31 years.
Such men rely on the Charities that support them. Eg. If you go on the Sally Army site now you will the story of a middle aged guy who found himself rejected by his fiancé and chucked out. The euphemism “relationship breakdown” is the reason for much of the homelessness on our streets.
