William Collins (mra-uk): ‘The Trouble with Boys in Education’

For many years boys have been disadvantaged, and girls advantaged, by the state education system. It’s one of the reasons that in British universities today, three out of five students are women. William Collins (mra-uk) has some important things to say about the phenomenon – here.

About Mike Buchanan

I'm a men's human rights advocate, writer, and publisher. My primary focus is leading the political party I launched in 2013, Justice for Men & Boys (and the women who love them). I still work actively on two campaigns I launched in early 2012, Campaign for Merit in Business and the Anti-Feminism League. In 2014 I launched The Alternative Sexism Project, aiming to raise public understanding that the sexism faced by men and boys has far more grievous consequences than the sexism faced by women and girls.

  • What is going on in education is an utter abomination, and the comment from the respondent to the Times Higher Education discussion is chilling.

This is a very, very serious situation and I have been saying for some time that there is now a desperate need for single-sex schools.

We need boys’ schools with male teachers, right from early years to sixth form. And we need them pdq before it is all too late. I am so angry about this.

  • Isn’t that interesting? In countries where women are accorded preferential treatment by most of the men and the society at large,on cultural and traditional grounds, (the gentlemen) men have fewer and fewer rights, fewer and fewer education opportunities, fewer and fewer employment opportunities and higher and higher incarceration rates. Isn’t it time that someone finally asked the inevitable question whether there is something wrong with these cultural norms and values?

In cultures where women are not as revered and are held accountable to the same degree as men are, there men are fairing far better. Isn’t it time to re-examine our cultural norms ? because clearly, there is something very wrong with them and they no longer work correctly in today’s society. Pedestalizing women has to come at someone else’s expense. There you have it.
If you want to treat your women like queens who can do no wrong, the way gentlemen do,then do not be surprised that you yourselves will be treated as insignificant and unimportant. Just the way it is today. Is it really fair? Is it really smart? Is it really neccessary? Is it really sustainable?
I’m afraid that if you answered yes to any of these questions, then do not bother fighting feminism,as you are propagating the current status quo yourselves.

    • This issue is often presented as ” The Trouble with Boys”. Yet it is the other way round. As Mr. Collins so cogently shows it’s “The Trouble with Education” for boys . There really has to be pressure on teachers and schools now to do much better for boys. Whatever their sex teachers and schools need to improve. It is education and teachers who should feel ” in trouble” and buck up in educating boys.

  • NRJNigel is absolutely spot on.
How can adult ‘educators’ and ‘lawmakers’ blame problems in education on children?
And male children seem to be fair game nowadays.
Since when are children (male or female) responsible for proper and efficient education? What has the western world under feminist doctrine come to? The entire system is failing boys, men, fathers, grandparents, male workers, male students and even male retirees !
Does being a gentleman mean men should have to accept all of these double standards and lies just because they have been perpetrated by women (‘ladies’)?
Are gentlemen expected to tolerate complete
illogic and incompetence just because it was perpetrated by ‘ladies’ ? If so,then it is time to drop the gentleman doctrine and start applying all rules and requirements to women in equal measure,no exceptions. And chances are all the double standards will be eliminated with suprising speed.
Because chivalry is the very reason all this feminist nonsense has been allowed to go on.
If adult men seem to have no self respect to allow women to get away with complete madness, then at least in the name of our sons and boys, cast aside the gentlemanly impotence and set this Absurdistan straight. It is tragically overdue and the future of the country depends on it.
